UO KING

UO Tailoring Skill Guide

Easy
crafting

Tailoring crafts cloth and leather armor, clothing, quivers, and many decorative items. It is central to the Bulk Order Deed (BOD) reward loop, producing Runic Sewing Kits and recipe items. Materials: cloth and leather tiers (Spined, Horned, Barbed).

Tailoring is a crafting skill in Ultima Online, rated as Easy difficulty to train. This guide walks you through everything you need to raise Tailoring from 0 to grandmaster, including the most efficient training methods, the targets and items to use at each skill range, and the gains you can expect along the way. Whether you are building your first character or optimizing a finished template, the breakdown below will help you train Tailoring as quickly and cheaply as possible.

Below you will find an overview of what Tailoring does, a step-by-step training guide, recommended skill ranges, any bonuses Tailoring provides, and the templates that pair well with it. If you would rather skip the grind, UO King can deliver a ready-made character or the gear you need to support a Tailoring build on your shard.

Overview

Tailoring is the cloth-and-leather crafting skill in Ultima Online. Armed with a sewing kit, a tailor turns bolts of cloth, leather and animal hides into clothing, hats, footwear and several classes of light armor. It is a strong companion to hunting skills, since the hides and bones dropped by slain creatures feed straight back into the tailor's recipes.

The trade covers everything from plain shirts and dresses to studded and bone armor sets, ninja garb, and decorative pieces. Leather-based armor keeps the color of the dyed hides used to make it, so tailors are also the source of matched, colored outfits and armor suits that many players wear.

Tailoring Success Calculator
Chance to craft successfully100.0%

Uses the standard UO formula (skill − item minimum) ÷ (100%-skill − item minimum). The 100%-success skill is usually about 30 points above an item's minimum; adjust it to match the exact item.

Skill Bonuses

An exceptional item from a Grandmaster tailor is sturdier and, where allowed, carries the maker's name. Each entry in the sewing menu notes whether the piece can be signed, holds its material color, or needs a recipe first. Points to keep in mind:

  • Maker's Mark: exceptional pieces in most categories can bear the crafter's name for added value.
  • Retains Color: the garment or armor keeps the color of the cloth or hides it was sewn from.
  • Requires Recipe: a handful of items, such as elven quivers, only unlock once you own the recipe.
  • Skill Required: the figure shown is the entry point for attempting an item and does not mean automatic success.
  • A tailoring talisman raises your effective skill and exceptional odds; enter its values in the page calculator to see your adjusted chances.
Advanced Notes

Training tailoring is smoothest when you keep making the cheapest item you can still fail on occasionally, then step up as your odds approach certainty. The summary below shows how the menu is divided and the skill range within each section.
